Metta Bhavana (“Loving Kindness”) Meditation

This is a 20 minute Metta Bhavana (“Loving Kindness”) Meditation. It offers the following mantra to different parties:

“May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you be safe. May you live with ease.”

It starts by offering this mantra to yourself, followed by:

  • A loved one

  • Someone neutral to you (eg. a service assistant you met at check out or spoke to over the phone, or even a person you heard a story about but don’t know)

  • Someone you are in conflict with (TIP: Do not pick the hardest possible person you can think of. Rather pick someone you don’t fully agree with or have a different value to).

  • A collective body of people (eg. a team/club/group you are a part of, your workplace, your neighbourhood, your school, etc.)

  • All sentient beings
