Are you drinking enough water?
According to the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) adult men should aim for at least 2.6L per day of water and women should aim for 2.1L! This doesn’t include drinks like tea, coffee, juice or soda either. These amounts also need to be increased under certain conditions (Eg. Regular exercise).
That’s a lot of H2O but it’s necessary for:
💧 the transportation of nutrients and waste products through the body
💧 hormone production and transmission
💧 providing a solvent for minerals, vitamins, amino acids (proteins), glucose (sugar), and many other small molecules so that they can participate in metabolic activities
💧lubrication/cushioning around joints to act as a shock absorber. This also includes around the eyes and spinal cord!
💧 aids in the regulation of normal body temperature
💧 blood volume maintenance
There’s a reason it composes approximately 60% of the human body! My best tip is to get yourself a 700ml-1L water bottle (ideally made of glass or stainless steel) and consume 2-4 bottles per day (marking them off so you don’t lose track). My other tip is having a glass of water after each time you go to the bathroom. Alternatively, if you think you over consume on snacks, you could also try drinking a glass of water each time you feel hungry (as many of us are really thirsty instead of hungry) and wait 30 minutes before reaching for a snack.
To add more complexity to the mix, water quality also contributes to your daily water intake requirements. I highly recommend drinking filtered water from a Zazen Water filter to ensure you are getting the best water quality possible. I will post shortly why I prefer Zazen over other filtering options.
So, now you know – are you drinking enough water? Tell me how you remember to consume enough water each day in the comments and share your inspiration/ideas with others for collective better health 💦🌎
