The Friendly Naturopath is committed to providing quality services to you and this policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you in respect of how we manage your privacy and personal information.

We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The NPPs govern the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your Personal Information.

  • How we collect and store personal information

Collection and use of personal information

Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. This information is collected when we provide a product or service upon your request via written, verbal or electronic correspondence (including when you have requested information from us). Electronic data is effectively anonymous. However, if you do not wish for this type of information recorded, disable cookies from your elected browser.

We will endeavour to ensure that personal information obtained is complete, accurate, up-to-date and relevant.

We collect your personal information for the primary purpose of providing our services to you, providing information to our clients and marketing. We may also use your personal information for secondary purposes closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure (eg. taxation, insurance, or legal purposes). We may alter this practice according to changing requirements.

When we collect personal information we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.

You may unsubscribe from our mailing/marketing lists at any time by contacting us in writing or by unsubscribing using instructions provided in each correspondence.

Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act 1988 to include information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record or health information.

Sensitive information will be used by us only:

•           For the primary purpose for which it was obtained

•           For a secondary purpose that is directly related to the primary purpose

•           With your consent; or where required or authorised by law.

 

Third Parties

Where reasonable and practicable to do so, we will collect your Personal Information only from you. However, in some circumstances we may be provided with information by third parties. In such a case we will take reasonable steps to ensure that you are made aware of the information provided to us by the third party. We don’t guarantee website links or policy of authorised third parties.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these websites even if you access those sites using links from us. Your use of these third party websites is entirely at your own risk and we recommend that you check the privacy and security policy of each website you visit. Clicking on a third party link will take you to a third party’s website. We make no representation or warranty as to the effectiveness, quality, legitimacy or data protections of any third party website.

 

Disclosure of Personal Information

Your Personal Information may be disclosed in a number of circumstances including the following:

•           Third parties where you consent to the use or disclosure; and

•           Where required or authorised by law.

We will never sell personal information to third parties. However, we may disclose your personal information to our staff where required. We may also disclose personal information to trusted third parties who we engage to process and store your personal information for us.

We may disclose personal information to other companies and organisations if we are concerned that there is a risk of fraud or if you are a credit risk. The disclosure of information may include organisations that are located nationally or internationally.
We will use all reasonable efforts to make you aware of the disclosure of your personal information contrary to the terms outlined in this Privacy Policy and where necessary will keep a written record of any circumstances where we disclose your personal information.

 

Storage and Security of Personal Information

Your personal information is stored using secure web services in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We follow reasonable technical and management practices to help protect the confidentiality, security and integrity of data stored on our system.

Nonetheless, we encourage you to be vigilant about the protection of your own information when using digital services. While we will endeavour to ensure that any relationships we have with third parties include an appropriate level of protection for your privacy, we will be limited in our ability to control any electronic platform operated by a third party.

When your personal information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your Personal Information. However, most of the Personal Information is or will be stored in client files which will be kept by us for a minimum of 7 years. Additionally, information posted in a public forum could stay in the public domain indefinitely.

 

Credit Card Information
Your credit card information is only stored and transmitted in electronic form either via our 3rd party partners or by you providing those details directly to us.

 

Accessing & maintaining the quality to your personal information

You may access the personal information we hold about you and to update and/or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. If you wish to access your Personal Information, please contact us in writing.

In order to protect your personal information we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.

We will endeavour to respond to your query, comment or complaint within 30 days of receipt of your correspondence. If you are unhappy with our response or if we do not provide a response within 30 days you can make a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner at The OAIC.
