Zen walking meditation
The Zen walking meditation technique is a highly recommended technique for anyone who doesn’t feel like they can meditate in a seated or lying down. It’s a four part step, which uses the mantra “peel, sweep, place, shift”. Another way you could think of this practice is each step is a gentle kiss to the earth. It’s your personal preference but for most people with a busy mind, the mantra often works best.
I also highly recommend zen walking meditation if you have a nice backyard, or find yourself at the park or beach and want a way of unwinding in nature. It’s a glorious technique to do barefoot to get the additional benefits of earthing yourself which also has wonderful calming benefits.
You can have your hands resting by your side, but I like the way the practice feels when I place my right hand (dominant, activated side) on my belly, and my left hand (supportive and calming side) on top. You often keep your eyes open and rather than looking at the ground, you keep your gaze looking straight ahead across the horizon. These simple things help gain greater clarity and focus whilst practicing.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
